The Centre for Research and Information on Substance Abuse (CRISA), in collaboration with its partners, is pleased to announce the 12th Biennial International Conference on Drugs, Alcohol and Society in Africa. We invite researchers, treatment and prevention professionals, policy experts, representatives of NGOs and students to participate in the conference.

Major Theme:
Public Health and Drug Policy in Africa: Beyond the UN General Assembly on the World Drug Problem 2016

Other themes:

  • Estimating drug use and related harm in the population
  • Improving access to effective treatment and harm reduction
  • Manpower issues in addiction prevention and treatment
  • Drug use among displaced persons and other victims of trauma
  • Use of new and local psychoactive substances
  • Countering alcohol-related harm in Africa: from Research to Policy


If you are interested in presenting the results of your research, submit an abstract of not more than 250 words by email to the Local Organizing Committee (crisainfo1@gmail.com) on or before 10 June 2016 and the full paper by 15 July 2016. The abstract should be written in one paragraph after the title and full names and affiliations of the authors and submitted as a Word document. Proposals for panel discussions and special events are also welcome.

Registration fees:
Local participants – N30,000;
Undergraduate students – N10,000;
International participants - $200.
Early registration (by 9 September): N25,000

Financial support/scholarship: We are pleased to announce that the UNODC, through the EU-funded “Response to drugs and related organized crime in Nigeria”, will provide financial support to selected Nigerian participants. An application form will be sent together with the abstract acceptance message and you will be expected to return the completed form with the full paper.
