From forest to dust: Socioeconomic and environmental impacts of the prohibition of the coca and cocaine production chain in the Amazon basin and Brazil
Registration is open for the webinar launch of From forest to dust, a new report detailing the history, effects, and intersections of the cocaine economy with territorial violence, organized crime and the climate crisis.
As the UN Climate COP 30 in the Brazilian Amazon approaches, a team of international researchers and experts came together to produce a thorough diagnosis of the impacts of current drug prohibition policies over one of the most fragile and key ecosystems on the planet. From the origins of the coca plant in the Amazon Basin to transit regions in Brazil and Africa to destination markets in Europe, the report presents new data on cocaine refining and the intersections with the environmental crisis, showing how the criminalization of coca created a war economy that hinders climate justice.
