trainings on harm reduction for local drug policies

. One of the trainings will be organized 

on 27-29 October 2014 in Vilnius, Lithuania 

in partnership with AFR and Eurasian Harm Reduction Network (EHRN).

The purpose of this training is to train participants around building relationships with stakeholders to strengthen harm reduction and the local level. Further information on aims, objectives, learning techniques of the training and expectations from participants is in the 

Capacity of the participant to transfer lessons learned at national level: i.e. active member of a national harm reduction umbrella, trainer, identified expert at national level, networking capacity, etc.

Experience of the participant or his/her organization in local drug partnerships.

English speaker (no translation will be provided).

Participants from Albania, Bosnia Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia and Slovenia.

EuroHRN partners AFR will be responsible for leading the training and managing the logistics. EHRN will provide support with inviting participants to the training.

2014 Scottish Drugs Conference and Project Fair

U.S. taxpayers have been funding citizen security programs in Central America for six years. The question is whether these efforts are having an impact on the crime and violence that has shaken the region and led to unprecedented migration of unaccompanied minors to the United States.

One element of the U.S. strategy is to support crime and violence prevention programs for at-risk youth in target communities. For the first time ever, USAID has conducted extensive impact evaluations of its crime and violence prevention programs in Central America’s Northern Triangle countries of El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras. The evaluations were conducted by the Latin American Public Opinion Project (LAPOP) at Vanderbilt University, a leader in public opinion research throughout the hemisphere. Join us for a presentation of the findings, and a lively discussion about the results and future directions for prevention programs in the region.

Are crime and violence prevention programs working in Central America?

International Drug Users' Day is the one day of the year where people who use drugs can celebrate the strength and diversity of our community, our solidarity and our empowerment.

To mark this day, INPUD is launching a statement, which asserts that to end the 'war on drugs’, we must move away from the ideas that drive prohibition and criminalisation. We are calling for an end to the 'war on drugs' on the terms of people who use drugs. And we are affirming and celebrating who we are as a community of people who use drugs.

This 2014 International Drug Users’ Day, we assert that to end the war on drugs – the war on people who use drugs – we must move away from the ideas that drive prohibition and criminalisation: we must challenge and reject stigma and drug-userphobia in all of its forms. We reject infantilising, patronising, and demonising preconceptions. We reject blanket pathologisation of people who use drugs, reject the assumption that to use drugs is to be sick or dangerous or immoral. It is time to discard cruel, pejorative, and discriminatory language and labels. It is time, once and for all, to reject crude generalisations and stereotypes of people who use drugs, and to acknowledge the variability and diversity of our community.

International drug users' day 2014

В этот Международный день потребителей наркотиков 2014 мы заявляем, что, чтобы закончить войну с наркотиками – войну с людьми, которые употребляют наркотики – мы должны отказаться от идей, которые ведут к запретам и криминализации: мы должны бросить вызов и отклонить стигму и наркоманофобию во всех их проявлениях. Мы отклоняем предрассудки, которые являются причиной инфантилизации, демонизации и высокомерного

отношения к потребителям наркотиков. Мы отвергаем патологизацию людей, которые употребляют наркотики, мы отказываемся от предположения, что употреблять наркотики- значит быть больным или опасным или безнравственным. Пора отказаться от жестоких, уничижительных, дискриминационных слов и ярлыков. Настало время раз и навсегда отказаться от неоправданных обобщений и стереотипов в отношении людей, употребляющих наркотики, и признать изменчивость и разнообразие нашего сообщества.

Итак, в этот Международный день потребителей наркотиков, мы празднуем и обращаем особое внимание на разнообразие и силу нашего сообщества. Во всем мире огромное количество людей из различных слоев общества употребляет нелегальные наркотики. Они употребляют наркотики по разным причинам, разными способами и в различных ситуациях. Хотя нас слишком часто заставляют молчать и ограничивают во время дискуссий и при формировании политики и законодательства, относящегося к нам, мы отстаиваем свое различие и нашу способность и право на самоопределение и осуществление нашей деятельности. Мы требуем права уважительного отношения к нам как к экспертам в отношении наших собственных жизней, мотиваций и опыта. Мы не будем тихо стоять в стороне, пока принимаются решения относительно наших судеб без нашего участия. Снова выдвигая призыв "Ничего о нас без нас", мы обращаемся к включению нашего разнообразного сообщества как единого целого.

Мы, Международная сеть людей, употребляющих наркотики, будем бороться, чтобы защитить наши права человека, наше право на здоровье, мы будем бороться, чтобы положить конец войне с наркотиками и запретам, все вместе в знак солидарности. Мы считаем трудности наших коллег своими собственными, не смотря на пронизывающую все сферы стигматизацию, социальное отчуждение, дискриминацию, замалчивание фактов и криминализацию. В 2014 году мы гордимся силой нашего сообщества, нашей солидарности и расширения наших прав и возможностей.
