National drug-related deaths conference

27 May 2014

The Scottish Drugs Forum are hosting a national conference to look at the current situation with drug-related deaths in Scotland, what actions are taking place to try to reduce the numbers of people who die every year and what could be done differently. Drug-related deaths in Scotland continue to be among the highest in Europe and in 2012, 581 people lost their lives. The tragedy is that the majority of these deaths were preventable.

The conference will draw on a range of experience both internationally and nationally to address the causes of death among people who use drugs and allow opportunities for networking, sharing good practice and planning for the future.

The exact venue of the conference will be confirmed very soon but it will be held in Dundee City on Friday 29th August to mark International Overdose Awareness Day (31st August). Details of how to book will follow, meantime if you have any queries please contact Kirsten Horsburgh, National Naloxone Coordinator by emailing kirsten@sdf.org.uk.
