Concluding observations on the 24th and 26th periodic reports of the UK - Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination

27 August 2024
Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD)

The International Drug Policy Consortium (IDPC), in collaboration with Release, Amnesty International, UNJUST UK and Harm Reduction International, submitted a shadow report to shed light on racial disparities in drug policing and associated human rights violations, urging for decriminalisation, the redirection of resources into care systems, and equitable reform. We are glad to see some of our recommendations upheld by the Committee.

The Committee issued its concluding observations on the report of the United Kingdom after the conclusion of its 113th session on 23 August. Summaries of the public meetings of the Committee can be found here, while webcasts of the public meetings can be found here. The programme of work of the Committee’s one hundred and thirteenth session and other documents related to the session can be found here.
