The gender perspective of European policies on prohibited drugs

22 November 2012

Although the EU is committed formally to include the gender perspective in all policies and to include specific measures to promote equality between men and women, it doesn't seem to exist political will to carry out this task within the agencies in charge to design and implement the European drug policy. One objective of this paper is to explore in which extent gender perspective is present in the design of the policy guidelines issued by the various agencies involved in the development and implementation of European Union (EU) drug policy. In order to achieve this, we examine the decision-making structure of the EU in the fight against drugs and to which extent gender perspective is present in the design of the policy guidelines issued by the various agencies involved in the development and implementation of the EU drug policy.
