Mexico’s national security spokesperson speaks about ongoing drug war
22 August 2011
In a rare exclusive interview with Al Jazeera English’s Lucia Newman, Mexico’s National Security Spokesperson Alejandro Poire discusses bringing down drug cartels in Mexico and the role of the United States in reducing drug trafficking. Poire admits that more needs to be done to reduce the demand for illegal drugs in the United States:
“We need to see much better results, both in terms of demand reduction in the US and also in terms of the reduction of the flow of illegal guns that are travelling from the United States and into Mexico. And those are two issues that are still standing.”
The exclusive interview is part of "Drugs Central", a special series looking into how the drug war is spreading south of Mexico and into Central America.
