French Parliament approves experimentation of safe injection rooms
9 April 2015
On 7th April, the French Parliament (Assemblée nationale) adopted the experimentation of safe injection rooms for a period of a maximum of six years, after more than four hours of lively debates between the left wing party and the right wing, UMP.
Article 9 of the bill on the modernisation of the healthcare system, which includes this measure, was adopted by 50 votes against 24. These facilities, which have already been established in other countries, aim to reach out to people dependent on drugs who usually adopt risky behaviours such as injecting in bad health conditions, often in the street.
