The 2022 session of CND was historical. Heightened geopolitical tensions resulting from the invasion of Ukraine and widening disagreements on the future of international drug policy and the role of human rights resulted in the clearest fracture to date of the prohibitionist 'Vienna consensus'. And yet, the session also took place under the sign of continuity, as reflected by the four resolutions approved by member states and the resilient and robust civil society participation, which shone a light on the many elephants in the room.
