The international drug control system - understanding decriminalisation of use and possession

Global Commission on Drug Policy

The UNGASS on the World Drug Problem held last April has gathered Member States, the UN system, civil society and all stakeholders to discuss and review the current drug control regime, ensuring an open and wide debate on the effectiveness of drug policies.

The government of the Czech Republic and the Global Commission on Drug Policy are hosting this side-event in the margins of the 3rd Committee to discuss the decriminalization of drug use and possession as an effective pathway to reducing the harms related to drugs; to highlight the successful national experiences in the Czech Republic and other countries; and to present the findings of the Global Commission’s latest report Advancing Drug Policy Reform: a new approach to decriminalization.
