National symposium on substance abuse and drug control in Nigeria

10 May 2013

The Centre for Research and Information on Substance Abuse (CRISA), in collaboration with the Nigerian network of NGOs on drugs and the Association of Substance Abuse Professionals, will hold a National Symposium on drug abuse and drug control in Nigeria from 14-16 August 2013.

Studies that utilize various research methods to investigate any aspect of licit (e.g., alcohol, tobacco) or illicit (e.g., cannabis, cocaine, heroin) drug availability, use and dependence will be considered for presentation. These include epidemiologic studies, general population surveys, school surveys, special population studies, qualitative research, case studies, clinical trials, and meta-analysis.

The focus of the symposium will be on capacity building for research, hence young researchers in the social and health sciences and education and experienced researchers with new data to present are particularly invited to participate. The symposium will also provide the forum for the official launch of a Nigerian association of substance abuse professionals and a network of NGOs in drug demand reduction and control.
