Asia-Pacific High-level Intergovernmental Meeting on the Assessment of Progress Against Commitments in the Political Declaration on HIV/AIDS and the Millennium Development Goals

21 September 2011

The Asia-Pacific High-level Intergovernmental Meeting on the Assessment of Progress Against Commitments in the Political Declaration on HIV/AIDS and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) will take place in Bangkok, Thailand on the 1st - 3rd November 2011.

In the attachments you will find the draft agenda and a previous resolution made at the UNESCAP meeting in May this year which was a regional call for action to achieve universal access to HIV prevention, treatment and care in Asia Pacific.

Civil society organisations with ECOSOC status are able to attend as observers as long as they submit the attached nomination form to the UNESCAP secretariat before 5th October 2011. Alternatively you can also contact your government and seek to be on your country delegation - the deadline for this was technically 12th September but there may be still be a chance if you move quickly. The first point of contact as we have been advised would be your UNAIDS country office in the region as the meeting is being organised by UNESCAP with support from UNAIDS, UNODC and UNDP. Organisations with ECOSOC status may also submit written statements to the meeting and can also apply for an oral statement although this will be granted at the discretion of the Chair.

One of the key discussion points at the meeting will be around policy and legislative barriers to achieving universal access in the region.

Please do contact the UNESCAP Social Development division if you need more information on procedural issues at: escap-sdd@un.org. Further information is also available online at: http://www.unescap.org/sdd/meetings/hiv/hlm/index.asp
