Hepatitis C: Enhancing prevention, testing and care

10 July 2015

PHE London recently commissioned the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) to develop an online Hepatitis C training course aimed at staff working in drug services and those who work with drug users to improve knowledge and awareness of the virus. The course is now available free of charge on the RCGP e-learning portal. The course takes around 2 hours to complete and participants will have the opportunity to print a 2 hour CDP certificate at the end of the course. PHE London would like to encourage commissioners and providers to consider how the course could be utilised via contracting arrangements, appraisals and in inductions for new members of staff, as well as how they might encourage people from wider support services to also access the course.

The course provides an understanding of hepatitis C and its prevalence. It also gives an overview of the liver and its function, and the stages and natural history of untreated hepatitis C liver disease.
