In South East Europe, penalties for drug offences remain high, although some efforts are being made to reduce penalties for drug use and possession. More recently however, governments have responded to increasing levels of NPS use with strong law enforcement efforts. In parallel, the economic crisis has had a devastating effect on the availability of harm reduction programmes.
The EMCDDA shows the encouraging progress that has been made to reduce the prevalence of infectious diseases amongst people who inject drugs, while also highlighting the need to extend the existing programs and services.
The main conference topics are on optimising drug dependence treatment and policy treatment cooperation with drug prevention, harm reduction, treatment and rehabilitation programs in the region, with a focus on Greece, treatment of Hepatitis C, different praxis trough the region, treatment in prisons and other key topics.
This year’s conference Looking over the Walls embraces a multidisciplinary perspective, and welcomes presentations on multicomponent programs, or on strategies for the modification of multiple risk behaviors.
