22 February 2016
Amnesty International

This written statement by Amnesty International to the 31st session of the UN Human Rights Council (29 February – 24 March 2016) focuses on the issue of the death penalty for drug-related offences, as well its implications particularly for foreign nationals under sentence to death abroad. Amnesty International urges UN Member States to ensure that the final Outcome Document of the UN General Assembly Special Session on drugs includes a call to respect the right to life of persons convicted of drug-related offences in accordance with article 6 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the jurisprudence of the Human Rights Committee.
