3rd Biennial National Symposium on Drug Policy in Nigeria

6 September 2017

The Centre for Research and Information on Substance Abuse (CRISA), in collaboration with Community Intervention Network on Drugs in Nigeria (CIND) and other partners, will organise the 3rd Biennial National Symposium on Drug Policy in Nigeria. The symposium will be held in October in Abuja at a venue to be determined.
The major theme of the symposium is “Community responses to drug problems in Nigeria”.

We invite researchers, policy makers, treatment experts and students to submit abstracts of their papers on all issues relating to responses to alcohol and drug problems at the community level for presentation at the symposium. Poster presentations and proposals for panel discussions and special events are also welcome. The programme will include capacity building workshops directly targeting CSOs and young professionals working in prevention and treatment and doing research on drugs in Nigeria.

We are particularly interested in papers that address the following sub-themes in Nigeria:

- Changing patterns of drug use in the local communities

- Marketing and promotion of alcohol and other drugs in the community

- Cultural beliefs and practices relating to drug use

- Production and use of indigenous and new psychoactive drugs

- The roles of local communities in the prevention of drug use (including traditional and religious institutions, and women and youth groups) Community-based treatment for drug use disorders
