Regional dialogue on drug policy reform and harm reduction

3 March 2016

The Aids & Rights Alliance for Southern Africa (ARASA) is hosting a Regional Dialogue on Drug Policy Reform and Harm Reduction on 3 and 4 March 2016 in Johannesburg, South Africa. The main objectives of this meeting are:

1. To promote dialogue and raise awareness about the human rights violations against people that use drugs as a result of the enforcement of punitive laws and stagnant drug policies against people that use drugs in southern and east Africa.
2. To share good practices and functional models currently being undertaken which contribute to creating enabling legal and policy environments for people who use drugs to access HIV and TB services.
3. To develop strategies that use the UNGASS 2016 process and beyond to engage with stakeholders, specifically the media, law enforcement and religious leaders, to advocate for the rights of people who use drugs and access to HIV and TB services.
