The Vienna Express 2010 - Towards Universal Access

24 June 2010

Through the Vienna Express, AIDS Foundation East-West (AFEW) is shining the spotlight of the world’s leaders, media and public on the HIV epidemic in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. This region, which has faced such unprecedented social and economic upheavals over the past decades, is now struggling to contend with the fastest growing HIV epidemic in the world. The biggest drivers of the epidemic are injecting drug use and unprotected sex. Altogether, an estimated 1.5 million people live with HIV in the region, and a disproportionate number of them are young people.

More and more, calls to strengthen the region’s response and to invest in helping vulnerable people are being met with a wall of indifference at the political level. By spreading the word, supporting us and adding your voice to our campaign, you will help us win the fight for action not indifference!

We invite you! What can you do?

  • Send your message to Vienna. This is your chance to make yourself heard to the whole world! Write your message about HIV/AIDS and your wish for better health on our website or on Facebook. We will collect all the messages and deliver them to the AIDS2010 conference in Vienna 18-23 July, 2010. There the world leaders and media will hear what we all want: universal access now!
  • Visit the website and share it with your friends and colleagues by email or through Facebook, Vkontakte and Twitter. The more people leave their message, the stronger our voice in Vienna!
  • Check the website for the calendar of events taking place between 18 June – 23 July 2010 to see when the Vienna Express comes to your country, 14 countries signed up already! Join your local event and make yourself heard!

The Vienna Express 2010 is organised by AIDS Foundation East-West (AFEW) and supported by the ministries of Foreign Affairs and Health (the Netherlands), UNAIDS, UNODC, OSI, GTZ and Hivos.
