Response Beyond Borders: 2nd Asian Consultation on the prevention of HIV-related to Drug Use

Response beyond Borders is pleased to announce the Second Asian Consultation on the prevention of HIV related to Drug use, This consultation will be an outcome of the First Asian Consultation which was held in Goa in January 2008 and the three sub-regional workshops which were held in SE Asia, South Asia in 2008 and in Central Asia in September 09

Response beyond Borders is a movement which was launched in Goa, January 2008, to highlight the need for governments, civil society and affected populations to collaborate across borders in Asia and respond to HIV, AIDS drug use and poverty.

Response beyond Borders is committed to the development of policies that endorse pragmatic, effective and congruent interventions for drug users and their sexual partners, which ensure affordable, accessible and sustainable services that are systematized, sensitive to their needs and available for all vulnerable populations.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS OF THE CONSULTATION

The official launch of ANPUD - the Asian Network of People Using Drugs

The official launch of the Asian Parliamentary Standing Committee on Harm Reduction, an outcome of the first consultation, and the sub-regional workshops

Strong advocacy backed by current evidence to STOP incarceration and imprisonment of people using drugs in the name of compulsory treatment centers. To issue a joint statement on behalf of RBB to change policy and nature of services where such centers exist.

Define gaps and services specific to the needs of young people using drugs in Asia by highlighting existing best practices.

Lobby for support to gather evidence and highlight the need for Harm Reduction Programs for wives, partners in sex and children of people using drugs in Asia

PARTICIPANTS

The consultation will bring together key parliamentarians, policy makers, participants from National AIDS programs, drug control, prominent NGOs, donors agencies, UN agencies, practitioners, management, frontline workers, and drug using communities from South Asia, South East Asia and Central Asia

REGISTRATION
The registration fee is 675USD this will cover access to all sessions, consultation documentation, lunch and refreshments for all three days.
