The inaugural Americas Regional Meeting of the International Society for the Study of Drug Policy (ISSDP) will be held in conjunction with the NYU Marron Institute Cannabis Summit in New York City, April 17-18, 2016, at the CUNY Graduate Center. We are inviting original scientific papers from all disciplines that are focused on examining issues related to cannabis use and policy. The committee is particularly interested in scientific papers with demonstrated policy relevance in the following areas:

  • Effect of cannabis policies on consumption (youth and adult)
  • Regulation and structure of existing cannabis markets (medical or recreational)
  • Pricing and taxation
  • Cannabis use with or in substitution of other substances (e.g., alcohol, nicotine, opioids)
  • Cannabis use and the developing brain
  • Cannabis use and educational attainment
  • Cannabis use and impaired driving
  • Cannabis product development (medical products and/or recreational products)
  • Epidemiology and consequences of cannabis use disorders

Scientifically designed quantitative or qualitative papers in other areas of cannabis policy are also welcome. Papers from all scientific disciplines are welcome and encouraged. However, this is a relatively short meeting that is being held in conjunction with the NYU Marron Institute of Urban Management’s Cannabis Summit, so the number of available oral presentation slots is very limited. We will
additional research to be seen.

Abstracts containing between 200 and 400 words should be submitted online by February 15th. A web portal for submitting abstracts is available here

The abstract submission form will also be available from the ISSDP website, and RAND Drug Policy Research Center, webpages and will remain open until February 15th. All submissions will be reviewed by the ISSDP Regional Conference Scientifit Review committee and decisions will be provided by March 4, 2016. All oral presenters must submit a working version of the paper no later than March 25, 2016, so that discussants can prepare remarks in advance.

Conference information and registration will be available starting Wednesday January 27th on this website.

Information on how to get to the venue and on discounted hotels that have been reserved for this conference will be posted in early February. The working language of the conference will be English. No interpretation services will be provided.
