IHRA seeks part-time intern

The International Harm Reduction Association (IHRA) is seeking a part-time (21 hours per week) intern for a three-month initial placement within the IHRA office in London. The intern’s role is to provide support to two major projects – the Global State of Harm Reduction E-tool and the European Harm Reduction Network (EuroHRN).

The internship provides an ideal opportunity to learn more about harm reduction research and advocacy around the world and to gain valuable insight through the experience of working with international NGOs and networks.

The post will be based at the offices of the IHRA’s offices on Westminster Bridge Road, London, and will work within the Public Health cluster, line managed by IHRA’s Senior Analyst: Public Health Policy and Research. There will be a monthly payment of £300 provided to cover travel costs and other expenses.

Internship Description

Supporting the updating of the Global State of Harm Reduction E-tool:

  • Drafting new text for the tool based on up to date information
  • Compiling the most recent data on the availability of harm reduction services to update tables and maps
  • Working with IHRA staff and web consultant to ensure maximum accessibility and functionality of the e-tool
  • Supporting the European Harm Reduction Network (EuroHRN):
  • Assisting with the mapping of advocacy opportunities, news and events for EuroHRN
  • Compiling monthly EuroHRN newsletters
  • Updating membership database
  • Support to other IHRA projects as required.

Personal Specification

Essential requirements:

  • Educated to a degree level
  • Strong organisational and multitasking skills
  • Experience of/or an enthusiasm for harm reduction
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English
  • Strong IT skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively within IHRA’s staff team and with civil society partners
  • Polite and diplomatic manner
  • The ability to work effectively with people from a diversity of regions, professional backgrounds and levels of authority
