IDPC was set up in 2006 following a meeting of NGOs, which identified the need for a global advocacy and communication structure in the area of drug policy. Since its inception, the Consortium has grown to 190+ members worldwide.
The IDPC governance structure was reviewed and amended in 2013 and 2017, as a result of an open consultation with our members. IDPC has a two-tier governance model:
The Board of Directors comprises seven appointed Directors and is responsible for the financial and legal oversight of the organisation.
A Members’ Advisory Council of the Board is responsible for the strategic direction and work plans of the Consortium. This larger group contains fifteen members: two Board members (ensuring coordination between the two groups) and thirteen representatives from different regions or constituencies who are directly elected by IDPC members.
