IDPC was set up in 2006 following a meeting of NGOs, which identified the need for a global advocacy and communication structure in the area of drug policy. Since its inception, the Consortium has grown to 173 members worldwide.
The IDPC governance structure was reviewed and amended in 2013, as a result of an open consultation with our members. IDPC has a two-tier governance model:
The Board of Directors comprises six appointed Directors and is responsible for the financial and legal oversight of the organisation.
A Members’ Advisory Council of the Board is responsible for the strategic direction and work plans of the Consortium. This larger group contains 12 members: two Board members (ensuring coordination between the two groups) and ten representatives from different regions or constituencies who are directly elected by IDPC members.
