As a result of the failure of the current drug control regime, a number of countries from around the world have started to develop alternative measures to address drug related issues. These alternative strategies have proved to be effective in reducing drug related harms, without causing an increase in the prevalence of drug use. Some examples of alternative drug policy strategies are presented in the publications below:
- After the war on drugs: Blueprint for regulation
- The Economic theory of illegal goods: The case of drugs
- Drug decriminalisation in Portugal: Lessons for creating fair and successful drug policies
- The limited relevance of drug policy: cannabis in Amsterdam and San Francisco
- The impact of heroin prescription on heroin markets in Switzerland
- Effects of the Western Australian cannabis infringement notification Scheme on public attitudes, knowledge and use: Comparison of pre- and post- change data
