The present information relates to the organization of side events at the occasion of the United Nations General Assembly Special Session on the World Drug Problem (New York, 19-21 April 2016).

Arrangements will be made for Member States, UN entities, intergovernmental organizations, as well as non-governmental organizations in consultative status with ECOSOC, that wish to hold side events. Side events will take place on the day preceding the special session on 18 April 2016, as well as during the special session, from 19 to 21 April 2016.

As the capacity of rooms that can be allocated for side events is limited, an application process has been put in place as outlined in the guidelines below. Only applications received during the application period (1 - 25 February) will be considered. Priority will be given to requests by Member States and to earlier requests. Topics of side events are to be thematically relevant to the UNGASS. In order to accommodate a large number of organizers, the number of events per main organizer is limited to one and organizers wishing to hold an event on a similar topic may be encouraged to merge their events.

Standard UN charges will apply for any technical equipment and services requested.

Confirmation of the programme of side events will take place three weeks prior to the session.
