Guatemala within the "Global drug wars"

22 April 2013

The continued focus on reducing the supply of illicit drugs has led to widespread violence, particularly in Latin America. Now a fundamental rethink of global drug policy is underway through the Organisation of American States and led by a number of Latin American countries, including Guatemala. Join our speakers as they provide new insights into the Guatemalan experience in fighting the global drug wars and what the future holds for the region's drug policies.

The speakers and discusants will be: HE Acisclo Valladares, Ambassador of Guatemala to the UK; HE Edgar Gutierrez, Guatemala's Ambassador at Large for International Drug Policy; Mike Trace, Chairman of IDPC; Professor Victor Bulmer-Thomas, Associate Fellow at Chatham House. The event will be chair by Dr N. Piers Ludlow, Head of the Cold War Studies Programme and Reader in International History at the LSE.
