EHRN training on TB services development for people who inject drugs

From 25th to 27th September 2012, the Eurasian Harm Reduction Network (EHRN) will be organizing a training for drug user’s community representatives “Developing Tuberculosis Services for People Who Use Drugs” in Kiev, Ukraine. The main objective of the training is to provide harm reduction service providers and drug user activists with knowledge and skills needed to develop services to respond to TB and implement successful advocacy campaigns to protect rights of people who use drugs and increase their access to health services. Participants will be provided with relevant information on TB and its prevalence, latest WHO guidelines for TB treatment and care. The plan to advocate for TB services and to include them in harm reduction programes will be also developed during the training.

Training will be held in hotel „Trypillya“ (Kiev oblast, 27 km. Novoobukhow Highway, Podgortsy Village). Participants from other countries and as well as Ukrainian participants from other cities (not from Kiev) will be provided with accommodation during the training. For Kiev participants transfer will be organized to the hotel and back to the city. There are still 2 places available for local participants.

The training is based on a module which is a deliverable from the EHRN/WHO project “Developing TB services for people who use drugs”, which aims to increase the capacity of community-based organizations and NGOs working in harm reduction field, including service providers and communities of IDUs, to provide TB related services, technical support and engage in advocacy actions to increase access to TB services for IDUs. The training is based on WHO guidelines for collaborative TB and HIV services for drug users, according to evidence based policy activities on TB/HIV and drug use response, following WHO Clinical protocol for TB/HIV co-infection management and TB Advocacy handbook for people who use drugs.
